Success Story: Datapool project

Project content and brief description

A leading company in nozzle technology with over 45,000 product variants for a wide range of industries, processes and applications was faced with the challenge of a growing IT and system structure. This structure was the result of rapid company growth and rapid progress in information technology. GADV was commissioned to develop and implement a future-proof concept for a central and uniform database in order to modernise various programs, test benches and decentralised databases.

Customer requirements

  • Development of a sustainable concept with a central and uniform database.
  • Open data presentation and decoupling of data storage and presentation.
  • Simplified import and export of data.
  • Continued use of existing measurement data acquisition programmes on the test benches.
  • Uniform tools for managing and presenting data.
  • Ensuring traceability of data and measured values.

Solution

GADV developed a comprehensive measurement database solution with the following features:

  • Centralised database: Implementation of a desktop application for Windows operating systems, with all users accessing the database via a central Microsoft SQL server.
  • Three-tier architecture: The application spans clients, IIS (Microsoft Internet Information Services), and RDBMS (database). The clients connect to the measurement database via a service hosted in IIS.
  • Integrated test benches: Test benches, usually implemented with LabVIEW, use the same interface to the IIS as the desktop application to read out test specifications and return measurement results.
  • Interface integration: Inspection orders are transferred from the PSP (Autodesk Productstream) to the measurement database via an interface table. The PSP database provides all relevant information about the inspection order and product, including master data such as product names and item numbers, thus avoiding duplicate data maintenance.
  • Visualisation of measurement results: Measurement results can be used without restrictions by field staff and branch offices via an Internet application.
  • Smooth integration: The jointly developed architecture enabled the new system to be seamlessly integrated into the company's overall IT.

Value for the customer

The introduction of the new system solution resulted in significant benefits for the company:

Future-proof system: The new solution ensures sustainable and future-proof data management.
Traceability and transparency: All data and measurements are centralised and traceable, increasing transparency.
More efficient processes: Consolidating data and measurements enables digital use, evaluations, and reporting without duplicate data storage.
Improved quality management: Consistent and more agile processes improve quality management.
Time savings: Optimised workflows lead to significant time savings and process improvements.
